Lateen House

Description

Lateen House is a carved cottonwood bark sculpture resembling a small, stylized house. The name is based on the shape of a sail used on sailboats. The piece features an exaggeratedly steep, triangular roof with a scalloped edge detail, giving it a whimsical character. Below the roof, there is a triangular window section containing three square cut-outs arranged in a grid pattern. Further down, the base of the sculpture includes a rectangular door with a small circular hole in the center, that represents a peep hole. The wood’s texture is rough and natural, highlighting the handcrafted quality of the carving. The sculpture has a rustic, folk-art aesthetic with clean geometric forms.
